Due to the onboard voltage regulators, you can choose between the 5 V and 3.3 V voltages, so you can drive different digital circuits easily. The voltages can be selected per rail (so, you can have one side at 5 V and the other at 3.3 V. There are 2 switches for it. You can power the board with an external PSU or USB (microusb).
